Ravidas ji was born in a cobbler family in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh in the 15th century. His father used to do the traditional profession of shoe making as per caste, which was considered low caste at that time. But despite his humble family background, Ravidas ji emerged as a prominent figure in the Bhakti movement, devotion in Hinduism and the egalitarian movement.
